The Call

It was bound to happen. Yesterday I experienced Holton’s first real “boo boo”. My mom dropped Holton off at daycare for one hour so that she could go hang with my little bro and his fiancĂ©. So I’m at work finishing up my day when the school calls to tell me that Holton was outside, fell, hit the back of his head on the concrete and had a bump on his head. They wanted me to come get him to see whether or not he should go to the doctor.

You should have seen me at work. My first real Holton emergency and I was cool, calm and collected. Then on the way over to the school I became the typical frantic mom. I called the pediatrician and they told me what to watch for and this got me a little nervous. So, I picked up the pace and sped over there. And when I arrived at school, I couldn’t get out of my car fast enough. I looked like the biggest dork ever running in the parking lot, in my heels, in front of all these parents. But, all was just fine. Holton was outside playing and I was so relieved to see that he was ok.

He was his normal self last night. Here he is in the bath.

Holton's Valentine's Day Party

Holton's school has a party for each and every holiday. Yesterday was no different. Cookies and cupcakes for all the 12 - 18 month olds. I'm quite confident Holton will never look back when he's older and remember this little party, but I guess it's the thought that counts.

Holton wasn't that impressed with all the hoopla.

That was until he could break free of the high chair and run around!

Then he really got into the Valentine spirit. He held hands with this little girl throught the door....like he was visiting her in prison or something.

But you know, Holton can't be tied down to just one girl. So, he moved on to another young lady. Maybe he does like this holiday after all.

Happy Valentine's Day

Look what Adam created for Valentine's Day. You can flip thru the pictures of Holton and I just love the song he selected. It's from the Juno soundtrack.

Thank you to my sweet Adam and Holton! I couldn't ask for more today! I'm so lucky to have both my "boys" in my life. Happy V-Day to everybody.

Weekend to Wyoming

Here are the pictures from my trip back to Casper, Wyoming. My mom, dad, little brother and I all attended my cousin's wedding. Her name is Johnna and she married a great guy named Woody. We had a great time seeing a lot of family we hadn't seen in nearly 8 years! I also spent the whole time trying to remember things around town since I was born in Casper.....that didn't really happen. But, we did get to see some cool llamas (you know, Tina from Napoleon Dynamite) and we saw some antelope too. And here's a tip for visiting Wyoming in the winter - wear a hat! I've never been in a windier place in my life! Check out what the wind did to this semi truck.

We are nerds and just had to have our picture by the state sign.
The cute little chapel decorated in pink.
Johnna and Woody during their first dance.
Family picture. Yes, I did wear the same exact outfit to the December ND wedding. What can I say, I like to rock this outfit at all the weddings!

Me with my cousins, Valerie and Ericka. It was so great to see them!

Back to my roots

This weekend I’m going back to my birthplace..........wait for it............Casper, Wyoming! I’m heading out for my cousin’s wedding. Yeah, I only hit up the hot, tropical locations for weddings lately. That means it’s a boys weekend for Adam and Holton. They will be heading to East Texas to see all the family. I’m not worried at all. Our dog Gus will be there to supervise should things get out of control. Have a good weekend!

Remembering Star

This blog is typically all about Holton, but I really wanted to post a brief note about this. It was three years ago today that Adam’s cousin Kari lost her beautiful daughter Star to cancer. Star was a bright, happy, 4 year old little girl who had a huge impact on everyone she ever met…..including me. Today I am filled with fond memories of her and of course, my thoughts and prayers are with Kari and her family.

It’s days like this where I want to cling to Holton and protect him from every possible bad thing from this big scary world. But, I know that’s not an option. So instead I will simply be grateful for all the many blessings that we have in our lives. I will be grateful for each day I have with my family and I will continue to think of Star’s smile.

The return of dancing Holton

What to expect
• Holton doing his own version of head banging to disco
• Holton shaking his little booty to some good ole' Waylon Jennings
• Holton clapping - in recognition of his hot dancing skills
• There is some terrible disco music at first, but that didn't stop Holton
• The video is about 2 minutes
